Tea

What makes Touwu Township unique is its exceptional natural environment. The rugged mountains and rivers here create ideal soil characteristics and climate conditions that are very suitable to the growth of tea. The soil here is loose and fertile, with excellent drainage and rich organic matter. Sunlight during the day and moisture at night transform into thick fog and abundant rainfall, providing excellent environmental conditions for tea cultivation. Because of this, Touwu Township is known as Miaoli’s “Tea Town”, while Mingde Tea, as the iconic local product, is widely recognized.

Honey

Mingde Community Beekeeping Restoration Center Association of Miaoli County promotes “community beekeeping” while simultaneously implementing environmental learning activities such as non-toxic communities/community symbiotic vegetable gardens/community plant greening and landscaping. The association not only redefines the “new community public space” with the concept of “sharing and benefiting” with surrounding characteristic industries, combine local culture and industrial characteristics, promote communication and interaction among residents, but also increases creativity in the life of community. Since August 2017, a beekeeping restoration center has been established to promote urban beekeeping and provide bee ecological education courses. So far, more than 70 beekeeping volunteers have participated, and the number of bee colonies has also multiplied from 2 to 3 colonies in the initial stage to 500 colonies. In the meantime, the techniques of beekeeping have gradually matured. In addition to passing on successful experiences to Nanzhuang Saixia Community, Shitan Baishou Community, Meinong Guanglin Community, etc., ecological education has also been integrated into the campus, and “working with bees” has become one of the community characteristics.
